๐Ÿš€ Major Upgrade for your Looker Studio Connectors!

TL;DR (Whatโ€™s new)

  • 4ร— faster performance
  • No more synchronous downloads โ€” data refreshes automatically 2x day
  • More reliable datasets โ€” no gaps and duplicates & better consistency
  • Handles much larger date ranges without timing out
  • New Data Sync Status Page coming soon
  • App Store Analytics returning to Looker Studio (Jan 2026) for 1 app + selected tables

โš ๏ธ First of all: Action Required

Because this upgrade includes improvements to the schema, you may need to Refresh Fields in your existing Looker Studio reports.

This is a simple one-time step [tutorial available here]:

  1. Open your Looker Studio report
  2. Click Resource โ†’ Manage added data sources
  3. Select your Easy App Reports data source
  4. Click Refresh Fields
  5. Confirm the changes

This ensures Looker Studio recognizes all updated fields and uses the optimized schema. If you skip this step, some charts may show errors until the fields are refreshed.

The behind the scenes

Looker Studio was the very first product we ever built at Easy App Reports. Itโ€™s how our whole journey started, and many of our best customers have been with us since those early Connector days. Over time, as apps grew and datasets became more complex, we kept hearing the same feedback:

  • Loading times were slow and large date ranges often crashed
  • Synchronous downloads were fragile
  • Looker Studio simply couldnโ€™t handle the scale of bigger apps

That feedback was exactly what pushed us to build the BigQuery version โ€” a platform-level solution designed to eliminate these limitations completely. We believe BigQuery is the end-game solution, especially for teams with bigger apps, more complex pipelines, and a need for guaranteed speed and reliability.

But we also want to honor the customers who believed in us since day one and who built their workflow around our Looker Studio connector.

This upgrade is for you.

Weโ€™ve taken the battle-tested infrastructure behind our BigQuery product and brought the best of it back into the Looker Studio connector โ€” giving you a faster, more reliable, more transparent experience than ever before.

โ€

What the Looker Studio experience used to be until now

Until this upgrade, our Looker Studio connectors relied on synchronous data downloads:

  • When you opened a dashboard or changed the date range,
  • We checked if the data existed,
  • And if not, we tried to fetch everything in real time.

While this was great on one hand, it also caused a few issues such as slow performance, fragile reliability, and hard limits for bigger apps.

โ€

What changes now โ€” powered by BigQuery infrastructure

Weโ€™ve rebuilt the Looker Studio connector on top of the same architecture used by our BigQuery plan. This includes:

โ€

๐Ÿ”ฅ 1.1. No more synchronous downloads

The connector no longer downloads data when you load a report. Instead, we refresh all data proactively twice per day and store everything before you even need it.

Result:

  • No waiting
  • No API bottlenecks

โ€

๐Ÿ”ฅ 1.2. All data now lives in Google BigQuery

We migrated from Google Cloud Storage โ†’ structured BigQuery tables.

BigQuery brings:

  • Native Looker Studio integration
  • Much faster query performance
  • Better schema enforcement
  • Stronger deduplication
  • Industrial-grade reliability

Benchmark:
The new version is โ‰ˆ4ร— faster across most datasets.

โ€

๐Ÿ”ฅ 1.3. Much higher data quality

Because the pipeline is now identical to our BigQuery product, you benefit from:

  • Automatic fixes for partial API responses
  • Fewer duplicates and missing rows
  • More consistent schemas

This is a major step forward in trust and accuracy!

โ€

Whatโ€™s coming next in Dec/Jan

๐Ÿ“Š 2.1. New Data Status Page

Youโ€™ll soon be able to see:

  • Last refresh time for each dataset
  • Latest available date per table
  • Sync failures or warnings
  • Upcoming scheduled refresh

This level of transparency has been heavily requested โ€” especially by teams handling multiple apps.

โ€

๐Ÿ“ˆ 2.2. App Store Analytics returning to Looker Studio on January 2026

We removed App Store Analytics in the past because Looker Studio simply couldnโ€™t handle the data volume. Now that the connector runs on BigQuery, we can safely bring it back.

There will be a limit of 1 App Store app, which is enough to have a taste of what App Store Analytics can offer.

โ€

Closing note โ€” Thank you for staying with us

We built this upgrade because many of you asked for it.
We listened โ€” and we delivered the biggest improvement the Looker Studio connector has ever seen.

And while BigQuery remains the ultimate solution for teams who want the absolute best performance and scalability, our mission is to make sure our Looker Studio product continues to serve you well, with speed, stability, and transparency.

This is a long-overdue update, and weโ€™re proud to finally ship it.
